The Blue Morpho Butterfly:

More Butterfly Magic!

This is the same butterfly:

Brown coloring when the wings are folded,

and blue when flying or sunning.

Love those "eyes"!

The Blue Morpho (Morpho peleides) butterfly is a native of Costa Rica, but can be seen at the Butterfly Place in Westford, Massachusetts. This remarkable butterfly is quite large--about 4-5 inches in wingspan. The blue color is hard to capture on film due to it's irradiance, but this butterfly really catches your eye as it flutters around. At first I did not realize the brown butterfly with the "eyes" was the same species. The difference in coloring is remarkable.
